The building that houses the current Hotel Lungarno Vespucci, formerly Pensione Consigli, was the private residence of the Demidoff family, originally from St. Petersburg. The Demidoffs were a family of industrialists of Russian origin who, following the appointment of Nicolaj Demidoff as ambassador in 1822, settled in Florence, where they became prominent figures in the city’s cultural and political life.
In the 1930s, this 19th-century noble palace was converted into a hospitality establishment. Established shortly before World War II under the name “Pensione Consigli,” the building was used during the conflict both as an air-raid shelter and as a refuge for the sick and wounded.
When the conflict ended, the receptive activity resumed, experiencing numerous managements, more or less prolific, until it was acquired, in March 2016 the elements of historical and cultural value were recovered, enhancing its charm with the integration of the most modern comforts characteristic of Italian hospitality.
